Lovely review from Everysensory!
I bought some makeup from a new-to-me Indie makeup creator (website pointed out by Estelle of Serenity blog, check out her swatches, they’re amazing!). Tina from Dark Heart was having an amazing pre-Christmas sale, so I went and bought a few things, and they’ve arrived today (very quick, all considering postal holidays and transit distance to NZ!) Here are my quick and nasty swatches, over bare skin and Dark Heart eyeshadow primer.
Left to Right – Glinda. Peachy pink with a really pretty shimmer.
Deal: Looks grey brown in the jar, but has a really awesome coppery shimmer, can’t wait to try this one on my eyes 😀
Eva: Smaller swatch because I got a mini of this, but it’s a nice purple grey.
And the goopy looking gold shimmer is something different, totally, to your normal powder eyeshadow. It’s called Centaur’s Wisdom, and it’s a liquid shimmer. With an…

This collage is of our Just Keep Swimming: A Talia Inspired collection. The eye looks are by Heather Makeup Mouse and swatches by Face By Emily. It was created because of her bucketlist request to have a MAC collection. Unfortunately I am not MAC and we weren’t able to get it to her so that she could see it, but a portion of the sales goes to one of her favorite charities.
A year ago today the beauty community lost a small person with a huge heart. In her short time here, she managed to inspire so many people. She gave them hope in a world that has too little. She taught them the meaning of strength and to find joy in things that inspire us.
Talia created a legacy that lives on. One of love and faith. She showed everyone how much impact one person can have on so many. Today we remember and a life that deserves to be celebrated. Though she was gone far to soon, the legacy she left behind is timeless.
I’ve decided to take a little more personal tone with this blog and include more of my experiences with Dark Heart and updates more so than products and such.
I’ve recently tried to work two day jobs in addition to my work with Dark Heart and move into a new house. It was just way too much to handle. I quit one job, slowly started the process of unpacking and organizing our house, started working on my makeup artist certificate, and I start cosmetology classes around the end of August.
I’m very happy to say I’m finally structuring my life and goals around what I love. I’ve also been working on new things for Dark Heart and trying to get the brand back on the right track to be successful. I’ll be trying to keep this blog more updated as well. In the meantime, here’s some looks from our promoters; the Dark Heart Dolls (Disclaimer: we don’t send free product to our promoters. They recieve a store discount for their work with the brand).
From top left: Jacinthe (MissMakeup), Dreadfully Divine, Ashley (Randomly Me), Elena (Lenabug’s Makeup Land), Brittny (Brit’s Makeup), and Katja (Katja’s Makeup Fun).
I was going to post this as an update, but I thought a blog post would provide more room to write, and be shareable across our social media so more of our fans will see the post.
Personally, this year, though it has only been four months so far, has been both unbelievably busy and wonderful. We finally moved out of our apartment and into a house after looking for 6+ months and having things fall through. We had originally planned to move a little further south, so I put in applications for jobs there. When we finally found our current house, we had decided to stay in the same town. Before we moved, one of the companies I applied for called me for an interview and I started working for them. The only problem was the 1 ½ drive there and back, and the fact that since we stayed in the same town, I was still working my 1st job.
Between trying to work two jobs, move everything in, clean up the apartment so we could turn in the keys, and getting the new house set so we could at least live in it, I was seriously spreading myself too thin. The time I had to work on stock, packing orders, and shipping seriously decreased. Instead of completely closing the shop, since Storenvy doesn’t have a vacation mode, it only says the store isn’t there, I changed most of the items to preorder and tried to change the TAT (turn around time) to something I felt was a closer estimate.
Last week I finally decided to put in my notice at the second job and pursue cosmetology. I gave it my best shot, but in the end it can’t compare to Dark Heart and how much I love makeup. I have to work those two weeks, and then we’ll be back on track. Orders will be caught up, contest prizes will be sent, stock will be updated, and new products will be added to the store. I’ve missed everyone so much, and I can’t wait to get back to DHD and the makeup community.
Win a deluxe sample set of the Too Late For Love collection. This collection is normally only available through Ebay’s Giving Works charity auction/buy it now listings. Enter here:
You can share the contest each day for more entries. Here is a swatch of the collection by the dolls:
The collection features 4 matte shadows and 2 lipsticks. The colors were requested by Courtney of Kiss & Makeup, Elizabeth of Dotty Ann, and Lacy (who’s been poking me for mattes for ages). A big thank you to all of them for the inspiration!
To name this collection we had vintage Hollywood movie stars in mind. I still believe nothing says old school glamour like a classic Hollywood starlet. Audrey Hepburn was always the height of class and a lady, Marilyn Monroe was an iconic beauty, Elizabeth Taylor was gorgeous and bold, Ava Gardner was charming and mysterious, Grace Kelly was her namesake; graceful, and Sophia Loren was a fiery, exotic beauty.
- Audrey – Black
- Elizabeth – White
- Ava – Nude
- Grace – Cream
- Sophia – Pink
- Marilyn – Red
You can find the Vogue High Fashion contest by clicking here. Its currently ended but the collection will be available soon.
I’m going to keep it short today and share one of my tools of the trade.
One of my most used tools is a mister filled with Isopropyl Alcohol. I use it to sanitize my workspace, tools, to spray my gloves before I make products and more. You can use it to sanitize pressed powders and spritz a little on a used lipstick before wiping a layer off on a clean tissue or paper towel. I wouldn’t recommend using it on brushes or any loose types of cosmetics as it would make a mess and could ruin your brushes.
You can pick up an inexpensive mister at Wal-Mart or Sally’s Beauty Supply and Isopropyl Alcohol is available at any grocery, pharmacy, or dollar store.

Wondering where the rest of our product line is? Have no worry! They haven’t bit the big one. I’m just trying to make sure that plenty of stock is made so that orders can be filled in a timely manner. No one wants to wait around forever for something they’re excited for. Thanks for understanding while Dark Heart grows more efficient.

While I was unable to release the Dark Heart Valentine collection in time due to health reasons, the new collection will still be available. This year’s collection features two sparkly shadows and our first two matte shades that we’ve ever released.
When I made the V-day collection I had HIM’s song St Valentine playing in my head. In case you’re not familiar it, this is the chorus:
“Hey baby let me be your Valentine, St. Valentine…
Suck the sorrow out of you and try to keep the lie alive.
Like St. Valentine”
I decided to theme the whole collection based on some of my favorite HIM songs, two being themed towards lighter, uncomplicated types of love while the other two are darker in theme and color.
- St. Valentine – A matte pink with a very subtle twist of lavender
- In Joy and Sorrow – A shimmery beige-gold
- Heartkiller – A deep matte brown
- Wicked Game – A shimmery copper-brown
A few special editions of this collection came with two of our nail polish prototypes. They may return when we’re able to work on the polish line exclusively.
Swatches are by Ashley of ~Randomly Me~. The left is with flash and the right is without.
Where to buy:
This collection will be available primarily through Ebay’s Giving Works charity listings. I’ve wanted to donate and be involved with charities for a while now but I get so busy its hard to keep track of the funding. I want to make sure things are legitimately going to the charities they should be. By listing with Giving Works, they take care of all that and all I’ll have to do is set up the item and ship it once its sold.
I thought limiting this collection to charity would be a great way to support some good causes and make it even more special. Some sets will also be sponsored by some of your favorite artists.
The first set is sponsored by Katie Alves. You might know her from her amazing makeup scenes like the following:
You can find her sponsored collection listing here, where 60% of the final price goes to the Humane Society: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Too-Late-For-Love-A-HIM-Inspired-Handmade-Cosmetic-Collection/171034209432?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=007&category=36865&cmd=ViewItem
